System76 Upgrades Adder WS Linux Laptop with 14th Gen Intel HX-Class CPU, Boosting Performance

System76 has announced the latest iteration of their Adder WS Linux-powered notebook, featuring an upgraded HX-Class 14th Gen Intel CPU and increased storage capacity.

This release marks a significant upgrade from the previous version, which was the first Linux notebook to include the NVIDIA 40 GPU series, including the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070.

The new Adder WS retains the NVIDIA 40 Series graphics but now boasts a 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900HX CPU. This powerful processor features 36 MB of cache, 24 total cores, and a clock speed of up to 5.8 GHz, along with Intel Iris Xe graphics.

“The AI boom is upon us, but what lies ahead? System76 is at the forefront of maximizing performance, currently updating its laptop line with 14th Gen Intel CPUs. This upgrade has already delivered higher clock speeds to the Bonobo WS, a graphics powerhouse, and the high-end Serval WS laptops,” stated System76.

Aside from the powerful HX-Class 14th Gen Intel processor, the new Adder WS laptop boasts increased storage capacity of up to 12TB M.2 PCIe Gen 4 SSD spread across three drives. Additionally, users have the option to configure the laptop with an impressive 96GB of DDR5 RAM.

In terms of connectivity, the laptop offers Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, an HDMI port with HDCP, a Mini DisplayPort 1.4 over USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type C), a USB 3.2 Gen 1 (Type A) port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type A) port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type C) port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port with Display Port 1.4 (Type C), a 2-in-1 3.5mm audio jack for headphones and microphone, and a dedicated microphone jack.

The laptop also boasts a 15.6-inch FullHD (1920×1080) matte finish display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 144 Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth and crisp visuals. Other features include a multitouch touchpad, a multi-color backlit chiclet US QWERTY keyboard, a 1.0MP HD camera, a 4-cell Lithium-Ion battery pack (53.35Wh), and Kensington Lock for added security.

The Linux-powered notebook comes with Intel ME (Management Engine) disabled by default, ensuring user privacy and security. It also features System76’s open firmware, including Coreboot, EDK2, and System76 Firmware Apps, as well as the company’s open-source embedded controller firmware. The notebook comes pre-installed with System76’s Ubuntu-based Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS or Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, providing users with a stable and user-friendly operating system.

The new Adder WS laptop is priced starting at $1,749 USD for the base configuration, which includes the 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900HX CPU, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 GPU, 16GB DDR5 RAM, and a 500GB M.2 PCIe Gen 4 SSD. Customers can customize and purchase their laptops directly from System76’s online store, offering a convenient and personalized shopping experience.
