KeePassXC 2.7.7 Enhances Password Import with 1Password and Bitwarden Support

KeePassXC 2.7.7, the latest update in the KeePassXC 2.7 series, was released today, bringing several new features and improvements. One of the key additions is support for PassKeys and USB hotplug for the Hardware Key interface.

This release marks over six months since the last update and includes the ability to import passwords in 1Password 1PUX and Bitwarden formats, both encrypted and unencrypted. Additionally, basic support for PassKeys (WebAuthn) has been added.

To enhance security, KeePassXC 2.7.7 now prevents byte-by-byte and attachment inference side-channel attacks. It also fixes a bug in the password generator that allowed duplicate characters in the “Also choose from” field and resolves an issue with scrollbars when dragging and dropping entries.

Several bugs have been fixed to improve the application’s reliability, including multiple issues with Time-based One-Time Passwords (TOTP), focus loss when saving without the editor visible, a visual glitch when removing entries from history, a search issue with the first entry not being selected, and a database merge crash when fdosecrets is enabled.

Browser Integration has also been enhanced, addressing various bugs related to returning credentials, a crash when opening the database from the browser, adding support for referenced URL fields, and improving the “Update Entry” message box.

For more information, you can view the release notes on the project’s GitHub page. KeePassXC 2.7.7 is available for download as an AppImage binary that can run on most GNU/Linux distributions without installation, or you can download the source tarball.

For easy installation, KeePassXC 2.7.7 is also available as a Flatpak or Snap app from the official website. Ubuntu users can use the official Ubuntu PPA to install the latest version of KeePassXC following the instructions on the website.
